Well, in a former posting some were discussing that some infants would not enter into the kingdome of heaven, which I don't beleive. But the uestion sparked another question within myself. How do I make covonant between the Lord and my child. I have been witness to dedication ceremonies, etc. I don't beleive in infant baptism but I want to know if people know of scriptures to support our children being devoted to the Lord or "Giving them back", so to speak. Nehemiah, A covenant between you and God is something that must never be entered into lightly. It is a serious matter to make a vow to God. It is also highly commendable. The covenantal agreement you make with God is simply to raise your children in a Christian home where the atmosphere is always as Godly centered as possible. However, it doesn't stop at home, it only begins there. You are to be the priest of your family and take a position of personally instructing your children in Biblical theology and doctrine. You must take the lead in teaching them about God, His law and His love. You are also responsible for providing them with an academic education that is founded upon and immersed in Biblical theology and doctrine as well as academics. A proper Christian/Biblical worldview that brings honor to God that expands His kingdom is paramount for both home, culture and society. You are to be the Biblical example your children must see and hear every day of their lives. So, as you can see, there is a tremendous responsibility on the part of parents if they are to raise their children Biblically. Sam Hughey |

Great response. In a very due seasone! I have more questions now though. So, where can I find out more about making a covanent. I am realizing and appreciating my child's gift and longing to serve the Lord at a very early age. I appreciate the Lord so much for blessing me with a child. I just want to make sure I do my part. I inquired in a much earlier posting about convenent and got no real response. How can we make an oath or convenentwith God and will it edify the Lord's will for our life? |

"Because a covenant confirmed between two human parties was bilateral, some scholars have concluded that the covenant Yahweh established with human beings is also bilateral. This is not the case" "Covenant "The word "covenant, " infrequently heard in conversation, is quite commonly used in legal, social (marriage), and religious and theological contexts. "The Idea of Covenant. The term "covenant" is of Latin origin (con venire), meaning a coming together. It presupposes two or more parties who come together to make a contract, agreeing on promises, stipulations, privileges, and responsibilities. In religious and theological circles there has not been agreement on precisely what is to be understood by the biblical term. It is used variously in biblical contexts. In political situations, it can be translated treaty; in a social setting, it means a lifelong friendship agreement; or it can refer to a marriage. (...) "The covenants referred to above were between two equal parties; this means that the covenant relationship was bilateral. The bond was sealed by both parties vowing, often by oath, that each, having equal privileges and responsibilities, would carry out their assigned roles. ************************************************* "Because a covenant confirmed between two human parties was bilateral, some scholars have concluded that the covenant Yahweh established with human beings is also bilateral. This is not the case. God initiated, determined the elements, and confirmed his covenant with humanity. It is unilateral. Persons are recipients, not contributors; they are not expected to offer elements to the bond; they are called to accept it as offered, to keep it as demanded, and to receive the results that God, by oath, assures will not be withheld." ************************************************* Bibliography Information. Has man ever been able to make a covenant with God?Hasn't God always the one to make it? Is an oath and convenant the same?I checked and it seems when God made a covenant it was an everlasting covenant.. Paul writes that the gifts and calling odf God is without repentence. Please consider these verses Rom 11:27, Gal. 3:15-17 and Heb 10:16. A great study Jim | ||||||
