1 | New Testament TITHING ? | Bible general Archive 1 | coltonjunior | 74941
Giving of TITHES and the 10 percent rule ? I believe that this was a rule in the Old Testament Days. The covenant with the Jews. GOD ordered them to give 10 percent of everything that they earned. Does this rule still apply ? We are now living in the New Testament era. Did Jesus tell us to continue with the 10 percent giving of TITHES ? Is this mentioned anywhere in the New Testament that we must continue to TITHE 10 percent of our income? |

I totally agree with you that this giving of tithes was under the Levitical law for the Jews. I find no where in the NT that we are bound to that law of giving 10 percent. We are under the law of sowing and reaping though. Look in 2Cor 9:6-10 In this passage of scripture it is speaking of a heart condition in giving. What God says to us in the manner of our giving unto Him. Out of a heart that is not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Look at the results of giving with that kind of heart attitude. He is able to make all grace abound to you, that having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed. In v.10 (my favorite) (the purpose in giving, is that), He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

"I find no where in the NT that we are bound to that law of giving 10 percent." We may not be "bound" in a sense, but the tithing priciple still remains. Giving God of your first fruits is showing him that he is first in your finaces. Tithing is a good start but not an absolute rule persay. However, tithing is mentioned in the NT:Heb 6:20-7:2 " 19 ... Jesus,... He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.1 This Melchizedek as ...priest of God Most High. He met Abraham ... 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything." |
