What churches/denonminations allow of weddings to be presided by someone who once was a pastor who is out of the ministry now and since than have been divorced? | ||||||

Greetings OneinHim, Your question is a very difficult one to answer, since divorce does not necessarily bar a pastor from ordination, nor necessarily prevent a person from acting 'in the capacity' of a pastor during a marriage ceremony. It is quite possible that a person could not even be Christian if they preside over a legal marriage that has taken place at the courthouse. I believe that this is a situation that could vary greatly between parishes/denominations, local church members and people involved. I know from firsthand experience (my father) that it is difficult for a man to become an ordained pastor in the Wesleyan, Free Methodist and Mennonite Denominations if they have divorced from a spouse in the past, but that does not necessarily mean that a former pastor who underwent a divorce cannot serve in the capacity of a pastor during a marriage ceremony if the couple specifically makes such a request. Blessings to you, Makarios |
