I have a question regarding the phrase "God doesn't give you more than you can handle". People seem to use it all the time, but I am wondering if this is tied to any specific passage or based in scripture at all? | ||||||

Hello jlynette and welcome. No, it's not in the Bible, but we can put together verses that show this. Psalm 103:13-14 (ESV) As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. [14] For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. 1 Cor. 10:13 (ESV) No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. James 1:2-4 (ESV) Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, [3] for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. [4] And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Because the Lord knows us intimately as a Father, he tests us but not beyond the point we cannot bear. Steve |
