I am trying to find the passage that about being forgiven only seven times somthing. A discussion brought up the question that we are not free to keep sinning as much as we want and then keep asking for forgiveness. Is there a reference in the bible that we will only be forgiven so many times? Carla |

Hello Carla, This is the verse you were looking for. Matthew 18 The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant 21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" 22Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. But sining after we have become a Christian is unfortunatly going to happen. Romans 3 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, But the way we sin is the difference of one who has hope of salvation and one who does not. We can not continue to live the way we used to live after we have obeyed the gospel. Romans 6 Dead to Sin, Alive to God 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? You see once a person becomes a Christian they have had a change of heart and are to try(though we will slip) to live for God. Hebrews 10 The Just Live by Faith 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, A person cannot continue using bad language, going to places that are not appropriate for Christian behavior. The reason for this is God loves you and he knows that we are weak in the flesh and does not want us to sin. Galatians 5 Walking in the Spirit 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[3] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders,[4] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. And so with that said, 1 Corinthians 10 12Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. Your friend in Christ, Raven |
