1 | Is sanctification a joint effort? | Bible general Archive 1 | zach† | 34634 | ||
Concerning the topic of sanctification I want to ask; 1) Is sanctification complete in the believer? 2) What is the difference between positional and progressive sanctification? 3) Is sanctification entirely a work of God, or does the believer have to co-operate in the sanctification process? 4) Is sanctification ever complete in this life within any individual? 5)Are the Bibical commands which call us to holiness and perfection, commands to the individual which involve joint effort on the part of God and the believer? I know thats a mouthful, but hopefully I can receive some excellent feedback from this forum on this topic In Christ zach† |

Searcher; I find it interesting that you state that the work of sanctification is entirely a work of God. Are you referring to positional sanctification or progressive sanctification or both? Then you stated that you believe that the Bibical commands to holiness and perfection involve joint effort on the part of God and the believer This would lead me to ask 1) How would you define sanctification, and 2) how would you define holiness and perfection In Christ zach† |

Scripture ... Act 20:32; Rom 6:19,22; 1 Cor 1:2, 30; 6:9-11; 1 The 4:1,3,4, 5:23; Heb 2:11; 10:10,29; 1 Pet 1:14-16; 1 Jn 1:8-10 zach†, I'm reposting my old posts. Sanctification has three steps: past, present and future ... positional is present and progressive is all three. -Past … the believer is already positionally set apart in Christ (Act 20:32; 1 Cor 1:2, 30; 6:9-11; Heb 10:10,29). -Present … is the Holy Spirit helping the Christian in their growth; putting away sin and putting on godliness (Rom 6:19,22; 1 The 4:1,3,4; Heb 2:11; 1 Pet 1:14-16). It never ends in this life (1 Jn 1:8-10). -Future … is the perfection the believer will enjoy at the resurrection (1 The 5:23) ... which is entirely a work of God. Word study ... salvation and sanctification ... Soteria (Strong's 4991) which means present or future salvation or deliverance, preservation, safety ... is one of the words for salvation. It is feminine noun. The adjective form is soterion (Strong's 4992) which means saving, bringing salvation; he who embodies this salvation, or through whom God is about to achieve it; or the hope of (future) salvation. Hagiasmos (Strong's 38) which means consecration, purification ... is the word for sanctification and is also translated holiness half the time. It is masculine noun. I'll let you look up the rest of the words. Answer my questions. Have you done a Quick Search on this? Hope this helps, Searcher |
