1 | Why the actual word "God"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Love Fountain | 27230
Dear Nolan, Thanks for the website. I still wonder where the word "God", in English ever came from. I wonder what is the first use, in English, and who used it? I think we are using God's name in vain, if we are not still using it the way He said was His name,(i.e. "I Am"). What do you think? But then again His name (YHVH) is unappreciable, including unpronounceable according to the Hebrew dictionaries I have looked at. The Jews at the website you referred me to said we should never try to pronounce or call on His name. This is interesting to me because God says He is the God of love, but some feel we shouldn't pronounce His name and I wonder how that is love? Thanks for your time, Love Fountain |

To find out the date and read the earliest published use of an English word, see the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language. If not at the public library, you should be able to find it at your nearest university library.
