1 | Are the added bits inspired? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ian | 23380 | ||
Several passages in the bible (especially the gospels) do not appear in early manuscripts (eg. end of Mark and a chapter of John which I can't remember at the moment- maybe someone else can). It is therefore doubtful that they were written by the original authors. Should we still look upon these parts as inspired by the Holy Spirit? |

The passages I think you are referring to are Mark 16:9-20 and John 7:53-8:11. Were they included in God’s original inspired Word? Well, it’s according to who you talk too. If you are talking to me, I believe they are. Some believe they were added by scribes, but the argument is weak, and there is more evidence that they were not added. No bible translator who thinks they were added are confident enough of that belief to leave these passages out of the text of any bible translation. Personally, I accept them as inspired as the rest of the Bible. As with any scripture, unclear passages must be interpreted with other clear passages. I don’t think the 1st part of John 8 presents much of a problem, but many times disputes arise from the long ending in Mark, usually to refute unscriptural beliefs built from it. If we balance scripture with scripture, Mark 16:16-18 presents no problem and should not be viewed as contradicting to any other scripture. Jesus Saves! retxar |
