I just read a great article on this very subject through RBC.com. I think that's the address. I got to this studybibleforum through it, so they're linked somehow. Anyway, the study said that while the original papyrus or animal skin scrolls have long since decayed, we do have record of the meticulous manner in which the masoretes (from whence the masoretic text comes) made copies of the texts they posessed. It stated that after counting the letters of a scroll to be copied the new copy had to have the exact same number of letters or else it would be thrown away. It also said that proof of the accuracy of the masoretic text was verified when the dead sea scrolls were found, which included almost the entire book of Isaiah word for word and several other pieces of other books as well. It said that the only differences in some of the manuscripts would be equivalent to the British spelling of the word labour vs. our spelling, labor. I hope you can find the RBC web page I'm telling you about, but if not you can easily find ones like it by searching for bible studies, then clicking onto any of the sites available; they're bound to have alot of good info on any number of topics. Happy hunting! |

Support..................................... Greetings Goofy! Excellent comments! There are a great number of what are called variant readings, but as you pointed out, most of them are spelling or word order issues. There are very few major variants and absolutely none that would affect any major doctrine. It is remarkable how God has perserved His Word! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
