1 | An end to the "string"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Kelkat | 18260 | ||
Wait a minute... I have never said that God will meet the desires of MY FLESH. And I agree, that is not what God intended. What I get is that God desires for us to live our lives daily in His will, following His rules, His steps, and His desires. When we are in His will, then He is our provision. And He provides according to His abilities. Does that mean we should all live in big homes and drive fancy cars? Not if the car or house or clothes become the focus. If you can't feel free to give it away, then it possesses you. You have become dependent. That is not God'd plan. Maybe that is where some of us differ in this "prosperity" teaching. I don't get that God desires ME to be wealthy. I have never made that statement, nor have I heard it made (in context). That's why I was saying that all this is a minor issue. Here's my theory. We, as christians, are so busy fighting over the minor issues (women preachers, baptizing, communion, healing, gifts, etc.) that we miss the unsaved or just scare them off. If we could all agree to agree on the main issues at hand (Jesus Christ came to earth as a man, was crucified, died, and buried. Three days later He rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of God. He is my Savior and Lord.) and let God work out the rest, I think peace would be a lot easier to reach. I try to find what I CAN agree on, and I let the Holy Spirit do the convicting. I think everyone is going to be a bit suprised when we get to heaven and find out that not one of us had it 100 percent right. That is all I was trying to get at. If they aren't contridicting the essentials, let it go. I promise that God will take care of it. And no matter how hard YOU talk, your words cannot convince anyone or save anyone. You have to trust God. Thanks for everyone's imput. Kelkat |

Kelkat Your answer contains the basic elements of authentic Christianity, yet you defend individuals that teach a different doctrine. You imply you never heard them say anything wrong, yet I and many others have supplied countless examples of them doing just that. You included the word “context” so I assume your implying they were made to look bad by taking their teaching out of context. If that be true would you tell me why they and their teaching alone has been so scrutinized. Why hasn’t this same thing been done to individuals like Jack Hayford, John MacArthur, Adrian Rogers, Joe Stowell, Tony Evans, Kay Arthur, Josh McDowell, Erwin Lutzer, and the many, many others? That in itself should cause you some pause. Ask yourself why? Why do people that support genuine Christianity continually object to what these individuals say and do? Love you brother EdB |

Your question: "What doctrine do any of them teach that is not founded on scripture?" My answer: All of the following: In brief, the teachings of [the Word Faith movement] may be summarized as follows: God created man in “God’s class,” as “little gods,” with the potential to exercise the “God kind of faith” in calling things into existence and living in opportunity, (...) . . . Jesus Christ [as a man] died spiritually (thus taking upon Himself Satan’s nature), (Jesus took upon Himself Satan's nature? Tim, Charis, Reformer Joe, Ed, Hank, etc.: do any of you see a problem with this teaching?) went to Hell, was “born again,” rose from the dead with God's nature again, (Jesus was "born again" in Hell???) and then sent the Holy Spirit so that the Incarnation could be duplicated in believers, thus fulfilling their calling to be little gods. Since we are called to experience this kind of life now, we should be successful in every area of our lives. To be in debt, then, or be sick, or (as is often taught) be left by one’s spouse, and not to have these problems go away by “claiming” God’s promises, shows a lack of faith.
