I would like to study the bible on a daily basis. I need structure and I would like some help where I can go to have a structured study. I love God very much, but I know that I fall short of his commitment. | ||||||

Greetings Mazon51! My church's web site has a One Year Bible Reading plan on it. That is how I would start to study, simply by reading through the Bible itself. If you would like to use it, go to: http://www.eccnazarene.org and simply select the One Year Bible Reading Plan from the Helps Menu at the top of the page. This page will update everyday to give up the current reading, and it also provides you with an interface to the Bible Gateway so that you can look up the passages from the same page. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear brother Tim; Ocassionally I find myself wondering through past postings in this forum. As I did, I found this past post of yours. While meditating on this subject I began to recall something which, in the past I read from "Of God and Men" In that book, A.W. Tozer made the following interesting statement concerning our methods of Bible study; "Here's how the file card works when it gets into the Christian life and begins to create mental habits: It divides the Bible into sections fitted to the days of the year, and compels the Christian to read according to rule. No matter what the Holy Spirit may be trying to say to a man, still he goes on reading where the card tells him, dutifully checking it off each day. Every Spirit led saint knows that there are times when he is held by an inward pressure to one chapter, or even one verse, for days at a time while he wrestles with God till some truth does its work within him. To leave that present passage to follow a prearranged reading schedule is for him wholly impossible. He is in the hand of the free Spirit, and reality is appearing before him to break and humble and lift and liberate and cheer. given to each one ..... Those responsible for the activities of churches and gospel workers must look out for the file-card snare. It is a deadly thing and works to quench the spontaneous operation of the Spirit." I only send this reply concerning this topic, because in my own personal Bible study time, I have found this statement of Tozer's to be very true. God many times has had me wrestle with certain portions of scripture for months and even years. Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee zach† |

Greetings Zach†! I love Tozer's writtings! :-) I think that a reading schedule is important, especially for new believers. It gets them into the Bible and 'forces' them to read through the entire Bible, thus exposing them to the totality of God's Word. However, I recommend an additional step to more mature believers. I recommend book studies. Studying a book in it's entirety and in depth really forces one to come to grips with what Scripture says. Unfortunately, most Christians aren't even willing to take the first step! :-( Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Brother Tim; I went to your churches web-site to look around, and the most amazing thing I found there was a picture of you. Now whenever I get correspondence and reply's from you I have a face to attach to the replys. I think that makes a difference in your replies. I also have a confession to make; I believe I have unknowingly become an Arminian. I started out in my new life in Christ as being in agreement with the Reformed position, but after continually studying God's word, I came to a fork in my spiritual road. I had to either believe God's word or certain denominations positions on doctrine. When push came to shove, God's word became my final authority and now I can no longer accept as true all of the Reformed faiths position. The point I am trying to make is: It was not through any man's teachings that I gradually began to move gradually more and more away from Calvinistic teaching and more and more in the Arminian direction, but that has come about only through the clear teachings of Scripture. So today even if I am an Arminian, I consider that to be because I am a Biblicist first. Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee brother; zach† |

Greetings Zach†! I hope the picture didn't frighten you too much! :-) The good news is that the picture there is about 5 years old and I have lost about 40 pounds since then! I understand about the labels. I think Joe made the point awhile back that labels are simply convient summaries of positions which we hold in common. If we had to explain every single thing that we believe on this forum every time we discussed an issue with someone, it would take a lot of time. However, by using a label, I can convey the basics of my understanding relatively quickly. :-) However, I am more than a label! :-) I appreciate the participate of all our brothers and sisters in Christ no matter what label best identifies them! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
