2 | "And to the angel of the church in Phila | Rev 3:7 | EdB | 61515 | ||
Hi Iorac Philadelphia was in locate the middle of a rich fertile land area and became known for it’s wine production. The wine production made it a very wealthy city. The placement of the city gave it command of an important pass through the mountains between Hermus and Meander valleys. Through his pass traveled mail, trade, and all forms of commerce from the west to the eastern regions of Lydia. Philadelphia in a sense was the keeper of the door or gateway to the eastern highlands and had the power to open or close according the to the will of it’s officials. Thus the reference to the doorway that no one can shut. Rev 3:7 Built on a bluff overlooking this gateway the city was located in the middle of a earthquake zone and survived many major quakes. It continually managed to raise itself out of the dust and ruin to once again enjoy it’s splendor. In 1400 the Muslims eventually slaughtered everyone in the city. The church of Philadelphia had a vigorous missionary vision and won many of the Jews of the city. This many times was the reason for the problems of the church in the city. Interestingly enough to the best of knowledge there is a pillar from the city that still stands, hidden among the scrubs and brush on the site where the city once stood. Again I think in reference to the pillar in Rev 3:12 I hope this info helps, it was collected from many different sources. EdB |
