banangel In Rev. 1:18 Jesus states he has the keys of Hades and of Death. There is no indication there of where he got them. Some teach that Satan had them and Jesus got them from him. However there is nothing in the Bible to support this theory. Others teach God had them and gave them to Jesus. In support of this in the Book of Job we see God controls who Satan can kill or not therefore God evidently has power of death. We also see God clearly controls heaven and earth. Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. Psalm 50:10-12 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. [11] I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. [12] "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. Here we see Jesus proclaim He has been given all authority and since God controlled everything we have to assume Jesus got the keys from God. In Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” This would fit with Jewish custom of the time, when a father relinquished control of the family possessions either because of age or death the son got the keys for all he controlled. It is clearly bad teaching that Jesus went to hell and got the keys from Satan. First of all Satan isn’t in hell, Satan wants no part of hell, Satan does not control hell. Satan roams the earth and heaven killing stealing and deceiving he also goes to heaven to accuse the saints (Book of Job, Rev 12). Satan’s end is the Lake of Fire not hell. Rev 20:10. EdB |
