1 | Who is the great harlot in Rev. 17? | Rev 17:18 | Searcher56 | 8420 | ||
Nolan ... I do not think so. The rest of the chapter does not fit Rome. Verse 10 says the seven horns are seven kings, five have fallen, one is, and one is to come. Then it talks about the beast being number eight (vs. 11). She also sits on many waters (vs. 1). Jeremiah described Babylon as a city which dwells by many waters (51:13). The historical city of Babylon was built on a network of canals. But the meaning of the many waters is found in verse 15 "Then the angel said to me, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages." How do the seven hills fit this city, as well as the rest of the passage? I do not know, unless it is the five nations that ruled over Babylon, that are gone. Rome was ruling over her at the time. Is the seventh in place now? - God knows. I do spend much time studying this book, expect for the first three chapters. So I lack knowledge in this area. Searching Scripture Steve |
