1 | Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize | Rev 14:16 | kalos | 149452
Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize Hebrew has no such thing as upper and lower case, and the oldest Greek manuscripts were all upper case. Here is an example of the difficulties involved in capitalizing words in a translation that are NOT capitalized in the Hebrew and Greek texts: 'Revelation 14:16 '(1) And He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and (2) the earth was reaped. '1. And He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth may indicate the nature of this harvest. The reader should ignore the interpretive decision made by the translators of the NASB. The fact that they capitalized He indicates their opinion that the one sitting on the cloud is a Divine Being. It is a heavenly being, but there is nothing in the text that demands that the cloud-rider is Jesus Christ.' ____________________ http://www.revelationcommentary.org/14_chapter.html * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.seekfind.org Christian Search Engine The mission of SeekFind.org is to provide God-honoring, Biblically-based, and theologically-sound Christian search engine results in a highly accurate and well-organized format. |

2 | Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize | Rev 14:16 | Morant61 | 149459
Greetings Kalos! The Bible Knowledge Commentary says of this verse: "John in his vision next saw seated on a white cloud one like a Son of Man wearing a crown of gold and holding a sharp sickle. Though some have identified “a Son of Man” as an angel, it is more probable that it is Christ Himself who is frequently called “the Son of Man” (cf. 1:13). In the Book of Matthew alone this title is ascribed to Christ more than 25 times (Matt. 8:20; 9:6; 11:19; 12:8, 32; 13:41; etc.). The sickle in His hand suggests judgment. And this is supported by the messages of the three angels (Rev. 14:15-20)." Personally, I do think that this verse is a reference to Christ, and to the rapture of the Church. The earth is harvested by one 'like a son of man', then angels are sent to gather the rest of the earth for wrath. I have always thought that this was an excellent picture of the rapture. :-) p.s. - Note as well that this event follows the last (7th) trumpet! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize | Rev 14:16 | mark d seyler | 149478
Hi Tim, Aren't Rev 14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, "Put in your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is ripe." Rev 14:16 Then He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped. Would an angel be giving instructions or orders to God? Love in Christ, Mark |

Exactly! Christ has no need for an angel to command him to do anything.
5 | Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize | Rev 14:16 | Morant61 | 149490
Greetings Mark! I have heard that objection before, but it never really bothered me. I would have less problem with the command than with identify an angel as 'one like a son of man'. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

6 | Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize | Rev 14:16 | kalos | 149492
"There is nothing in the text that... ...demands that the cloud-rider is Jesus Christ." 'Revelation 14:14 '(1) Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and (2) sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, (3) having a golden crown on His head and (4) a sharp sickle in His hand.' '2. Sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man identifies the rider of heaven’s unique transportation. One like a son of man is clearly reminiscent of Daniel 7:13. However, this is not Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus would hardly need an angelic exhortation to begin the earthly harvest (Rev 14:15). The one thing that can be dogmatically asserted is the fact that this is a unique heavenly being.' 'Revelation 14:15 '(1) And another angel came out of the temple, (2) crying out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, (3) "Put in your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, (4) because the harvest of the earth is ripe." '1. And another angel came out of the temple supports the conclusion that the rider on the white cloud is an angelic being. Another angel suggests a previous angel. The immediate context suggests that the rider is the focus. This angel’s job is to deliver a message. '2. Crying out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud expresses the recipient of the angel’s message. Emerging from the temple, this angel undoubtedly is under the authority of God. The fact that an angel commands the cloud-rider to begin argues against the identity of the rider as the Lord Jesus. That the aspect of sitting on the cloud is emphasized suggests that the identity of the cloud-rider is not paramount. The Lord Jesus stated in Matthew 13:39 that "the reapers are angels" at the end of the age. This argues strongly that the identity of the rider is an angelic being.' 'Revelation 14:16 '(1) And He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and (2) the earth was reaped. '1. And He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth may indicate the nature of this harvest. The reader should ignore the interpretive decision made by the translators of the NASB. The fact that they capitalized He indicates their opinion that the one sitting on the cloud is a Divine Being. It is a heavenly being, but there is nothing in the text that demands that the cloud-rider is Jesus Christ.' 'Revelation 14:17 '(1) And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. '1. And another angel came out of the temple indicates a second angelic being with a sharp sickle. That this angel came out of the temple indicates that the cloud-rider mentioned in Revelation 14:14 also came out of the temple. This argues against the cloud-rider’s identity as that of Jesus. This angelic being also has a "sharp sickle," in good condition for a harvest.' ____________________ www.revelationcommentary.org/14_chapter.html |

Greetings Kalos! I would certainly not be dogmatic on the issue! ;-) However, the phrase 'like a son of man' is exactly the same phrase used of Jesus in Rev. 1:13. It would certainly strike me as being odd if this phrase was then used to describe someone else. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
