My opinion is that when you eat (read) the Bible it is sweet at first...but when you get deeper into digestion (understanding) you see the Truth about yourself and it is not always easy to face the truth...Sometimes the truth hurts and therefore is bitter....Make any sense?!

I agree with you. As we grow closer and closer to Christ, we are growing closer and closer to His LIGHT. Light, as we know, illuminates things and thus won't allow anything to hide in a shadow. Our sins are revealed to us more clearly as we grow. But the Good News is that HE paid for them all already, and we are saved by faith through His blood because of His Grace. Our seeing our sins only helps to glorify Him because we turn to Him more then with worship and thanks.
