Hi Doc: Thanks for the answer? I'm not sure if I got an answer actually. I understand that punctuation needed to be added, but adding entire sentences? Who had the athority to do that and who did it? The Bible clearly states that nothing should be added or removed - Rev 22 18-19.

Hi Happy and Free, Of the 1000's of extant Bible manuscripts, not all, unfortunately, agree. Some have extra words and sentences, some are missing words and sentences. Errors and changes have crept in. The textual criticts Doc was referring to have that awesome job of trying to determine which were the original words of God, and they, also unfortunately, do not always agree. If this were The Adventures of Sinbad, so what? But since it's the Bible, God's Holy Word, upon which we base our entire lives and eternity, it is important to understand how we got our Bible, and the different versions, and to prayerfully choose which to read and study. All of that notwithstanding, I like what the King James translators wrote in their preface, "Even the meanest (poorest) translation is still the Word of God." It is the Holy Spirit Who speaks to us, not just ink on paper. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Thanks Mark. This kind of thing is exactly what I need. I feel the need to research in depth. Mostly, because I started talking to a girl that is in one of the largest cults in North America and I need to be sure of my own Bible before I can possibly witness to her in love.

You may do well to get a book or two specifically about the particular cult. It could save you some time in research. I am not trying to discourage you from researching the history of the Bible, that is a great thing to. If you call 1-800-272-WORD, they have a wide variety of material that may be useful to you. God Bless!!! Love in Christ, Mark |
