1 | Was an angel duped? | 1 John 5:7 | Shirley Ujest | 152900
I doubt there are any Mormons that frequent this website, but I have an interesting observation. As I read one of the chapters the "elders" suggested, I came across the following at 3 Nephi 11:36: "And thus will the Father bear record of me, and the Holy Ghost will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one." Joseph Smith was an earnest student of the AKJV as is obvious from the above language. Although he died in 1844, the language sounds particularly early 17th century English. More noteworthy is the reference given to this passage in the Book of Mormon: 1 John 5:7. My question is: Since this passsage in the AKJV is known to be spurious (no manuscript authority), how did the angelic messenger, Moroni, get fooled? If you quote Galatians 1:8,9 to a "Latter-Day Saint," he will respond that several books of the Bible were written after Paul penned these words. True enough, but Paul was obviously not talking about chronology (for he himself wrote inspired letters subsequent to the one to the Galatians), but rather, about substance - no one (not even an angel) should be declaring anything that would contradict what has been previously declared as good news. The Book of Mormon would not include the passage at 3 Nephi 11:36 if not for the deceptive individual that initially caused the corrupt verse at 1 John 5:7 in the AKJV. He would of course be "accursed," but the angel Moroni would have to be either demonic or a figment of Mr. Smith's imagination! This passage had a tremendous impact on all of Christendom, Catholic and Protestants alike. The NIV states that the the AKJV passage first shows up in late manuscripts of the Catholic Vulgate. Could it be that this "accursed" individual, under Satan's influence, has mislead more that just the Mormons? |

2 | What is the AKJV? | 1 John 5:7 | cloud | 152904
What is the AKJV? I have spent alot of time with Mormans and they come up with an arguement for every scripture you show them. I had one stumped one time and he said, "well the Bible ain't perfect but the book of Morman is." I showed them 3 Nephi 11:36 and I said it sounds like Joseph Smith believed in the Trinity. Mormans believe in Jesus but not His diety so will they go to heaven? |

3 | What is the AKJV? | 1 John 5:7 | Shirley Ujest | 152908
The AKJV is the Authorized King James Version. Jesus clarified that believing he is God's son is not sufficient for salvation at John 3:36. |
