1 | King James Version | 1 John 5:7 | 8788 | 110360 | ||
I have a King James Version and I have come to really love it. My pastor brought to our attention that some of the other bible translations are very different, some scriptures omitted and would leave out the name Jesus or God and would say he or him. I'm not trying to start anything but I went on line to look at certain translations, such as the NIV and it altogether omitted I John 5:7 where it talks about there are 3 that bear witness, Father, the word and the holy ghost. There are alot more thats omitted in certain bibles. Please be aware of this because if someone is a new creature in Christ and don't have certain scriptures in there bible they could easily be deceived. Especially when you read and say the name JESUS, there is power in his name and some scriptures in certains bible translations state he or him. Please don't take this wrong, I'm just letting other Christians know what other bibles or saying. Be Blessed! |

Brother or Sister in Christ, I just wanted to address part of your question. The question that is asking about I John 5:7. The KJV has that particular rendering of this passage because the people who wrote the KJV were using versions of the Vulgate that also contained it. The Vulgate being a Latin text, it makes sense that it was written many years afer the original Greek texts were written. Most of the modern translations (NIV, Amplified, NASB, etc.) exclude this passage because it is not in any of the Greek texts prior to the 16th century. It is genrally thought that the closer a text is to the actual date that the original passage was penned, the more accurate the text should be. In this particular case, because I John 5:7 does not appear in ANY Greek manuscripts prior to the 16th century, it has been generally accepted that that the bit about there being three that testify in heaven was not part of the original text, and therefore it should follow that the verse should be omitted from new translations of the Bible in an effort to keep the text as accurate and close to the original as possible. Excellent question! Your Brother in Christ, Andrew |
