2 | Does God love everything? | 1 John 4:8 | Makarios | 97273
Greetings Terrifel, 1 John 4:8 "The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love." [NASB] "4:7-21 This is one of John's greatest passages. God is love (vv. 8,16). Love is His supreme quality. God can be known only by those who live in love (v.16). Yet we could not know how, nor be able, to love Him if He had not first loved us (v.19). if we love one another, God abides in us and His love is perfected or matured in us (vv.12)." (1) As for satan, God threw him down to the earth (Ezekiel 28:18), and permanently cast him out of God's place of authority (Luke 10:18), even though satan retained at least a limited access to heaven (Job 1:6-12; Zechariah 3:1,2). As a result of his heinous sin against God, Lucifer was banished from heaven (Isaiah 14:12), his name changed from Lucifer ("morning star") to satan ("adversary"), and his power became completely perverted (Isaiah 14:12,16,17). Satan seeks to wage war against believers (Ephesians 6:11,12), and opposes us with the ferocity of a hungry lion (1 Peter 5:8), putting doubts in our minds (Gen. 3:1-5) and pride in our hearts (1 Tim. 3:6). Satan seeks to lead us away from Christ (2 Cor. 11:3). And you ask, "Does God still love satan?" "Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?" 2 Corinthians 6:15 "6:15 Belial. A term (from Hebrew) used to designate Satan (see note on Deut. 13:13)." (2) God does not love satan any more than He hates sin (Gen. 6:5-7; Proverbs 6:16-19; Galatians 5:19-21). Makarios, you wrote, "God does not love satan any more than He hates sin." Is this true of unbelievers as well? Did God not love me more than He hated my sin? Or is satan a special case? Colin |

4 | Does God love everything? | 1 John 4:8 | Makarios | 97280
Greetings Colin, God desires all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) and doesn't want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). He certainly takes no pleasure in the death of the unsaved (Ezekiel 18:23). At the same time, God is a 'fair' Judge (Job 34:12; Genesis 18:25), and the heathen (unbelievers) are really lost (Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5). John 12:32 says that Christ's work on the cross makes possible the salvation of both Jews and Gentiles. Notice, however, that the Lord-in the same passage- warned of judgment of those who reject Christ (verse 48). Philippians 2:10,11 assures us that someday all people will acknowledge Jesus as Lord, but not necessarily as Savior. The divine desire for all to be saved (1 Tim. 2:4) will only be realized in those who exercise faith in Christ (Acts 16:31). Scripture consistently categorizes people into one of two classes (saved/unsaved or believers/unbelievers), and states that the final destiny of every person is one of two realities (heaven/hell) [Matthew 13:49; 25:32,34,46]. As far as God loving 'everyone,' even unbelievers, I would say that God's love extends to all men, since Scripture teaches that God's salvation has 'appeared' to all men, not merely the elect (Titus 2:11; 1 Tim. 2:6; 4:10; Heb. 2:9; 1 John 2:2; John 3:16). However, God's love will only be realized, or made effectual, in those who believe in Him (John 6:37,44; 17:2,6,9; Rom. 9:10-16; Acts 13:48). Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." I pray that this post will speak to all who doubt that God loves them, so that they will accept His Son as Lord and Savior. Blessings to you, Makarios |

5 | Does God love everything? | 1 John 4:8 | flinkywood | 97283
Makarios, thanks for your scripture-packed answer. Rom 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." And yet there remains a scriptural grey area, Psa 5:5 "The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity." Does God love even the worker of iniquity in the thick of his sins? The obvious answer is Paul, nee Saul, self-confessed murderer of men, women and children, and his testimony. So my view is yours, that God knows we are dust (Psa 103:14 "For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust."), and that He is "...longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3.9. The overwhelming weight of scripture points towards God's incomprehensible, self-sacrificial love of sinners and His desire that we repent and believe in His Son. I still wonder whether He can possibly love Satan. Colin. |

Greetings Colin, I would not say that God absolutely cannot. Ephesians 3:19 "and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God." God's love surpasses all knowledge, and is beyond our comprehension. Blessings to you, Makarios |
