Hi, Inquisitor... That website simply presented the perspectives that are extant on moral perfectionism. Some scholars and teachers, by the test of time, have come to be recognized in the church for their sagacity, piety, and wisdom. We are told that such men are gifted to the church by Christ for our good (Ephesians 4:8-14). We do not hold faith in them, but we learn from them insofar as they consistently teach the truth based on the authority of Scripture. The greater we know our Lord, the more we see our utter inadequacy in the face of His holiness. Indeed, we do not ever clearly see the depth of our depravity. In my lifetime I have conceived of far more sin than I have been able to instigate, simply because of lack of opportunity. (God is merciful in His limitation of our ability to commit more than a few sins at once.) As we increase in our understanding of our sinfulness, we are in greater appreciation of the unspeakable gift we receive through Christ. Paul's assertion most assuredly is often expressed by those who know our Lord in grace and in truth. In Him, Doc |

Doc, you can pack more 50 cent words in a few lines than I'm used to seeing in a month of Sundays. But then that is true of those fellas you mentioned on that website. You're all great to read about and listen to, BUT none of you have the Holy Spirit's inspiration like we're absolutely guaranteed that Paul and the other Apostles had going for them. So as I understand God's Word, all of us humans MUST put far more weight on the Words of His appointed representatives, the Apostles. That's why when it comes to a contrast, I put more credence in the Bible and pay heed much more readily. PS: Don't get me wrong; I do like to read about that sophisticated stuff and philosophical discussions. I've even been known to buy a book now and then to add to my libray. But on spiritual and/or religious matters, God's Word MUST take precedence. Hopefully you agree. |

Hello Inquistitor, If you don't mind me asking, are you an then adherent of solo scriptura? Do you discard any and all creeds, confessions of the Church or Church fathers? I don't beleive any of us are claiming to be inspired in the way the apostles were when they penned scripture. We believe the Bible to be the Word of God, inerrant, verbal plenary inspired and authoritative to us in our faith and practice. Nor do I believe any of us are saying that we hold the word of man to a higher degree than God's Word. But, we're also not discarding the value of what many godly men have been influenced through their study and illumined by the Holy Spirit to say! (Heb. 13:7) BradK |
