Hi, whippie! Here's what Christ says about love: The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them. (John 15:13) Humanity's brand of love is basically summed in the following expression: Tit for tat! Outside of Christ our ego previals over our best intentions... society trains us as children (through stories, movies, songs, TV programs) that love, as beauty, is measured by material wealth (the more someone possesses the greater he/she is deemed to be the object of love) or power (through acts of love--be they real or disingenuous--we can control others)... Here's what Paul tells us about God's Love: Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fails. Love is eternal... (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) There are many of us who subscribe to some of the principles found in the above Scriptural passage... there are some of us who forget that we are to love because God is Love and we are commanded to be like He is (Matthew 5:48; Luke 6:40), so we tend to love conditionally (only if like backgrounds, affiliations, ethnicity...) or subjectively (what can be gained/received from the object of the affection)... God Bless! Angel |
