1 | Will we be here once anti-Christ appears | 1 John 2:18 | dschaertel | 85778 | ||
We are here now aren't we? Consider the following veses: 1John 2:18, 1John 2:22, 1John 4:3, and 2John 1:7. I think the answer to your question is quite clear. This talk about a future antichrist and this elaborate end times story is great for selling books, making movies and scaring people into coming to church, but it just isn't in the Bible. |

Part 1 of 2 1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. If John were the only one that had ever mentioned the antichrist then these scriptures would be sufficient for telling the whole story. Since that is not the case you have to look at them all to understand. John did not say they were wrong for believing a long established doctrine from the prophets of a coming antichrist, but simply reminded them that the doctrine that this antichrist would teach was even now being taught by many antichrists. John is simply reminding them that this stratedgy of satan (which will give his authority to the antichrist) is what is behind these false teachers. John never says.. "you are wrong for thinking there is a one antichrist.. I tell you there are many" but that is the way people keep quoting him. He says, "ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists;" that is not a contradiction of the doctrine that One particular Antichrist will come. This doctrine that John knew they were familiar with is in many prophets. They grew up understanding it. Only they called it The Wicked Prince and names like The Man of Sin. It is in Ezek and Dan and also in other prophets. Daniel says much about him. Paul spoke of it as something the Thessalonians already knew about and reminded them that the falling away associated with the Man of Sin and the revelation of the Man of Sin (That Wicked) was something that we can mark as the sign that we have entered into the day of the Lord that final outpouring of judgements. We are in the last days and as a result there are many antichrist teaching that Jesus is not God in the flesh, but the final Day of the Lord has not began yet and we will know that it is upon us if the man of sin is revealed standing in the holy place, the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet. The book of Revelation goes into great detail about the Antichrist and does not spiritualize him as many but as one man. They began calling the prophecy of the man of sin or wicked prince the antichrist becuase they had more revelation after learning Christ that this man of sin would attempt to oppose the Second Coming. Ezekiel 21:25-27 And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him. Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: (continue on next post) |

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. The word that is translated "time" here is a specific, definite, fixed time. Since John was referring to his present time, there is no way that he can mean today or some indeterminite future day. Either John doesn't know the language with which he wrote, or he was referring to a time when he was alive. The events of Revelation occurred in John's life time. The end of the age was the end of the old covenant capped off by the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD. It would be a long discussion, and probably not appropriate for this forum, but Revelation is a done deal. The people that insist that God doesn't ever fulfill his promises keep ignoring the facts of history. Before you try to even respond to this do yourself a favor and read Josephus' accounts of what happened between 64 and 71 AD. Keep the scriptures close at your side. It will blow your mind. It's all been accomplished, and God won. |

Part 1 'Did Jesus Already Return in AD 70? 'By Rev. Bill Lee-Warner '"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." Matthew 24:34 'The above passage is found in what is referred to as the Olivet Discourse of Jesus given a few days before Christ's crucifixion. The context for Matthew 24:34 is Jesus' response to the questions of the disciples regarding His return and the end of the age. There are those in the church of Jesus Christ who understand "this generation" to refer to the generation to whom Jesus was speaking the day He gave the discourse. 'The apostle Paul recognized this error and warned Timothy of it when he wrote, "But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, and...spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and thus they upset the faith of some." (2 Tim. 2:16-18) 'Today, there is a resurgence of this teaching known as preterism. The term preterism comes from the Latin word praeterism and means "past" or already gone by. The basic teaching of preterism is that the great tribulation has already occured in the distant past, principally at AD 70. Those who hold to this teaching are known specifically as full preterists. There is another subgroup of preterists known as partial or moderate preterists. This latter group sees parts of the Olivet Discourse, or Jesus' teaching on end times, as partially fulfilled in AD 70 but other parts as yet to be fulfilled at the second parousia of Christ. Several efforts have been made to establish preterism as historically sound and biblical but the clear warning of Paul reminds us that it is an heretical and false teaching. The following reasons are offered to the student of Scripture and prophecy for consideration. Be a Berean (Acts 17:11) and examine the Word to "see if these things are so."'
