2 | stealing-- made right after being saved? | 1 John 1:9 | S Wootley | 158774
5-10Sonny: I believe you are right to connect stealing with sin. The Bible clearly makes this point many times over (Ex. 20:15; Mk. 10:19; Eph. 4:28). Perhaps a place to begin would be to ask ourselves, "How do we deal with our sin before God?", or, "How do we make things right with God with regard to any sin?" I would point you to 1Jn. 1:5-10. Let me allow you to read this yourself, only to emphasize now the importance of a right relationship to Jesus, a right course of life, and a right regard to sin which these verses address. (I'm sorry this came out as three points.) As I understand the issue, I believe the sin of stealing also carries with it an additional element that requires our faithful response. Restitution (Gen. 22:1-9; Lk. 19:8-9; Lev. 6:1-7). The sin of stealing is wrong also because we harm another individual. We sin because we fail the second of the two greatest commandments, "To love our neighbor as ourselves." And, as it is in our power to do so, we must seek to correct our failure on the human relationship level. It's called restitution. You might guess that I believe the Scriptures require us to go beyond the typical "I'm sorry" approach. We may be, (sorry, that is) but that fails to acknowledge our responsibility to correct the wrong we have done. I know I've approached this with a 'broad brush', but I believe it reflects the Scriptures accurately. I hope you find it helpful. |

My case actually goes back 40 years. Just because we give our lives to Christ and repent of our sins does not mean that we will not sin again. We are always in a constant battle with the flesh(sin) and the spirit (good). Once we repent we need to ask for descernment to be led away from the temptations of the flesh.
