1 | Who are the angelic majesties/dignitarie | 2 Pet 2:10 | beulah | 55578
The angelic majesties/dignitaries which are spoken of in this verse, are they 'fallen' angels/satans minions or those who are obedient to God or both? Can this verse be put alongside Jude 9-10 to be similar in meaning?

I would take it as meaning any deity (whether supposed or the true God). It is saying that these men are not afraid to lie and decry others, while the angels who are in God's presence will not even skirt on lying by bringing forth a slandering accusation, as in the next verse. Jude 9-10 displays a similar point, even though it is an allusion to an apocryphal book, the Assumption of Moses, and hence disputable whether or not the allusion itself is canon.
3 | Who are the angelic majesties/dignitarie | 2 Pet 2:10 | Ray | 55602
Hi beulah, I think that 2 Peter chapter 2 is talking about fallen angels. I personally would put 2 Peter 2:10-12 alongside Jude 5. The theme that I see is that God saves and He destroys, whether they be man or angels. In 2 Peter, chapter 2, I see this alternating contrast. Verse 4 "For God did not spare angels when they sinned..." Verse 5, "...but preserved Noah... Verse 6, "and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction..." Verse 7, "and if He rescued righteous Lot.. 2 Peter 2:9, "then the Lord KNOWS HOW TO RESCUE THE GODLY from temptation, and [in contrast He knows also how] to KEEP THE UNRIGHTEOUS UNDER PUNISHMENT for the day of judgment,..." Jude 5, "Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, AFTER SAVING A PEOPLE out of the land of Egypt, [He] subsequently DESTROYED those who did not believe." So for both angels and mankind he knows how to save and to destroy. So we need to have the right idea of the love and grace of God. We must not deny the only Master, God, even our Lord, Jesus Christ. 4 | Who are the angelic majesties/dignitarie | 2 Pet 2:10 | beulah | 55678
Thanks Ray, the answer to my question set in context the verse I asked about and I can see clearly the link between verse 10 in 2Peter and Jude 5. The reason I was asking about these 2 verses was because I have noticed that both have been cited as a biblical reason why engaging the enemy in Spiritual Warfare, i.e. identifying and waging war against the strongman over a city, is prohibited by scripture. There is much debate within Christian circles about how Spiritual Warfare should be carried out whether the Church should be engaging the enemy directly or that our warfare should be through preaching and living out the Word thereby confronting and exposing sin. Both of these scriptures together with 2 Corinthinans 10:3-5 and Daniel 10:12-14, have been much aired in this debate. I am trying to gain a biblical perspective of these things in order that what I believe is based on Truth and is therefore pleasing to God. I would be very grateful if you or others could add any scriptures and insights which would help me to gain more understanding on this subject. Thank-you again Beulah |
