Greetings Jeremy Nashville, Scripture does mention and gives us several helpful verses for our meditation in regards to self-discipline and self-control. To begin with, 2 Peter 1:5-7 is an excellent passage that tells us to "make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control,..". 2 Peter 1:8 "For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:9 "For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins." 2 Peter 1:10 "Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall." Other Scripture passages include: Tongue control - Psalm 39:1-2 Controlling one's temper - Proverbs 16:32 Keeping oneself under control - Proverbs 29:11 Refusal to drink wine - Jeremiah 35:6 Act in times of duress - James 1:19-20 No one is perfect - James 3:2 But after all of these mentioned above, I would still go back to the 2 Peter 1:6-10 passage, which is truly excellent! Blessings to you, Makarios |
