1 Peter 4:12-19 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. Praise the Lord! Norm |

Norm - from a post by Kalos: "We must not confuse God's discipline with His wrath. The Bible teaches that the church will enter the Seventieth Week of Daniel and, after the midpoint, the church will face persecution by Antichrist. This time, which Christ called the Great Tribulation (Matt. 24:21), will be Satan's wrath against the church (Rev. 12:12), not God's wrath. God's wrath does not begin until after the sixth seal is opened (Rev. 6:12-17), the church has been raptured (Rev. 7:9-14), and the seventh seal is broken, initiating the trumpet judgements (Rev. 8:1-6). "God will bring discipline upon the church in order to purge, purify, and refine it. We are promised in God's Word that we will not face God's wrath, but we are never promised exemption from suffering, persecution, or trials. Rather, we are promised that God will "discipline us for our good, that we may share His holiness." (Hebrews 12:10). God will bring the church through the Great Tribulation so that we will be presented to Christ as His bride, "in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle...that she should be holy and blameless..." (Eph. 5:27), "... so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming." (1 John 2:28). "The persecution that believers suffer today, and will suffer during the Great Tribulation, is a sign that we are part of the household of God. He, as a good father, is purifying His family for our good. We may not enjoy the experience, but we can rejoice that we are among those facing discipline now, being purified in preparation for heaven, rather than among those who will face the full force of divine judgement later." (www.signministries.org/faqs/faq023_judge.htm) Commentary on 1 Peter 4:17 by Tim Moran The context of the passage is suffering for being a Christian - 1 Pet. 4:12-19. Therefore, I think the judgement referred to in 4:17 is the painful trials of v. 12 and the suffering of v. 19. While this suffering is part of God's will for believers, He is not the source of it. The suffering is a natural outflow of our faith in Christ. Verse 18 seems to be making a sort of play on words. If it is this hard to be a Christian, then what will it be like for those who aren't Christians? Therefore, the 'judgement' referred to here is not condemnation by God or His wrath. It is simply the suffering we endure for being His children This reference is NOT about Judgment Day. Romans 8:1 AMEN! mommapbs |

Hi mommapbs, I agree with Tim Moran. It is not a matter of condemnation but a time for judgment and decision making. Perhaps the first decision to make is to decide whether to include in your personal copy of the Scriptures, the last part of 1 Peter 4:14. 1 Peter 4:14, NKJ, "...On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified."
