1 | Baptism by water is not necessary | 1 Pet 3:21 | TRJ1221 | 59425 | ||
I do not believe that baptism by water is necessary fro salvation. 1 peter 3:21 states "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:" I feel this means it is not the physical washing of the flesh but the spiritual washing. A good conscience towards god. Another example which cannot be denied is at least one person was saved without baptism. Luke 23:42-43 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. This was the criminal who was being crucified next to jesus. He was not baptized but Jesus said that today you will be with me in paradise. |

Personal Note ........................................ Dear TRJ1221, Thank for sharing your ideas, but this topic has been debated extensively previously on this site. In the future perhaps you could do a search first and add your comments to an existing thread. Starting a whole new one just causes a hanging primary note to stick around for a while. |

1peter 3:21,does affirm acts 2:38 where peter tells the people who asked him what must they do..Peter repled repent and be baptized in the name of JESUS CHRIST for the remmission of sin(baptism the greek is bapiso which means immersed)and yes it also goes with matt.28:19, it is not a symbol but an act of obediance to the will of GOD as JESUS did in matt.13:3 where he(JESUS WAS BAPTIZED) this should help you to better understand.. baptism is the act of obediance.. |
