Hi jydubb, Although Peter was concerned about the sufferings of Christians and talks a lot of the sufferings of Christ, the main thrust of his message was still our salvation. The revelation of Jesus Christ was that this Man is Spirit and that we should love Him and believe in Him as God in the flesh. It is this idea that I keep in mind personally when I consider 1 Peter 2:24. This Man/Spirit "bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed." I think of these as Spiritual wounds. Why did this Man die? It was so that the Spirit could bring us to God. 1 Peter 3:18, "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the *Spirit." Our physical needs can be met in the will of God, but the most important thing in life is our eternal salvation found in Christ. 1Peter 4:6, "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the *Spirit according to the will of God." We may look in faith for healing of our bodies but the important thing is "obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls." 1 Peter 1:9. From the heart, Ray |
