God made us to be thinking and reasoning, not just automatons that do His bidding. He made even the angels able to choose whom they would serve demonstrated by Lucifer's fall (Isa. 14:13-14). I believe that God put the tree there to allow them a choice. The principle is repeated in (Deut 30:15-20.) Sinful man cannot look on the face of a Holy God (Ex 33:18-23) so we need to be free of the sin Adam willingly entered into (I Tim 2:14). Yes, God knows everything. In fact, the first foretelling of Christ (given as a sacrafice for sin) was given through God Himself at the time of the fall (Gen 3:15). |
