I went to church every week as a child. However, I just recently returned to the church as an adult. I find myself baffled with questions I never considered as a child. As a child, I do not remember hearing the concept of trinity. I just really do not understand it. If God and Jesus were one-why does it say Jesus prayed to his father? Do some christians believe that they are seperate-a father and a son?

Keep asking questions. There are answers, but sometimes they won't be completely satisfying. In the process of your new education you will have to begin gradually. Just like you wouldn't expect a new math student to deal with Calculus, you will have to start and grow slowly in your understanding. By the way, there is lots of jargon to learn, and new ways of thinking. It is an exciting path on which you are now embarking. There are lots of things to know... lots of things that God has given us to know. We need to keep in mind that some of it may well beyond our ability to comprehend. (You can teach a microbe a very few things, but you'll never get it to understand philosophy. It is not in its nature to understand it.) The Trinity is a concept that is not explicitly articulated in scripture. Nevertheless, it is quite clearly there. To the human mind 3 can never equal 1. The simplest way to state it is that God is "three Who's and one What." Even that doesn't quite capture this thing. The Nicene creed states the nature of God most clearly in this respect. It is worth some study. But you will find that the triune nature of our God is taught throughout scripture. God bless you as you continue to learn! In Him, Doc |

Jesus prayed as a man. But in him was all the fullness of the Godhead Bodily. God is one, not three.
