"24:1-4 The meaning of this central OT passage on divorce is this: If the events of verses 1-3 take place (i.e., a woman is divorced from her first husband and marries a second one who also divorces her or dies), then the restriction of verse 4 applies (i.e., her first husband cannot remarry her). The passage cannot be construed as commanding divorce, only as regulating an existing practice. See notes on Matt. 19:3-10. indecency in her. Apparently this meant some repulsive or indecent exposure, rather than adultery (for which there was a test, Num. 5:11-31)." Ryrie's Study Bible |
