Greetings TheistKim, Deuteronomy 22:13-30 covers a variety of situations concerning sexual morality: 22:13-21 - Man who doubts the chastity of his wife; possible consequences for husband if giving false testimony or for wife if found guilty 22:22 - Adultery: Man with married woman - both shall die (Lev. 18:20; 20:10) 22:23-24 - Betrothal: violation of betrothal has consequences for both man and woman - notice that verse 24 calls the betrothed woman the 'neighbor's wife.' 22:25-27 - Rape of engaged/married woman: only the man is guilty, not the woman, and the man is to be put to death. 22:28-29 - Rape of an unengaged woman/virgin: the man is then obligated to marry her and cannot divorce her for the rest of his life. (Genesis 34; 2 Sam. 13:12-13) 22:30 - Incest or step-mother: man cannot take his father's wife (see Lev. 18:6-8; Genesis 49:4; 1 Chronicles 5:1; 1 Cor. 5:1) Blessings to you, Makarios |
