Dear Karineena, Greetings in Jesus' name! Apparently they were married before Jesus was born. Though Luke 2:5 uses the word 'mnesteuo' correctly translated as 'engaged,' they must have been married or they would be responsible for the sin unto death outlined in Deuteronomy 22:22-27.
