2 | power of a praying woman? | James 5:16 | Makarios | 43754 | ||
Greetings kbpraisen! I believe that James 5:16 is also speaking of women in this verse, even though the NASB only says "man." The Greek word that is used in James 5:16 is 'dikaios.' Here is the entry for 'dikaios' in Strong's Concordance: "01342 1342 dikaios dik'-ah-yos from 1349; equitable (in character or act); by implication, innocent, holy (absolutely or relatively):--just, meet, right(-eous). see GREEK for 1349" The Greek word itself is masculine but I interpret this verse to be referring to prayer by anyone, not just referring to the prayer of men. The New Revised Standard Version states, "... The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective." The English Standard Version states, "...The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." So I believe that James 5:16, which is arguably the most commonly used verse to illustrate the power of prayer, also is for women as well, even though it has the word "man" within the NASB text. Blessings to you, Makarios |
