2 | Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? | James 4:3 | The Disciple | 29876
Is coveting Blessings from God a good thing? More so, is working out principals laid out by the Word of God for the purpose of gaining HIS blessings a good thing? Ex: Malachi 3:10, the Lord wants us to test him in tithes and offerings. I've heard it said that even the heathen can follow this principal and it will be done unto them. For me personally, since I have started tithing with a joyous heart, I have been blessed with all I need. And also with some of what I dont need. But, my heart wasnt to tithe out of a principal to gain a blessing (heavens opening up). Yet, we (congregates)are taught by our pastors/teachers that its ok to pray and desire Blessings from GOD. What to do...... Personally, IF our motives are GODLY who is going to refute the Hand of God on your life? Am looking forward to another string of Godly wisdom from you and our other bretheren. *SHALOM* D |

3 | Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? | James 4:3 | Makarios | 29879
Greetings Discipled! My answer would be "No", since it is out of love for Him that we do the things that we do, not out of covetousness, even of the blessings from Him that we receive. The Bible repetitively admonishes against covetousness of any kind. Covetousness of our own possessions or blessings can lead to pride, which is another vice that we are admonished to stay away from. We shouldn't EXPECT to receive anything in return for doing the Lord's work, even though the Bible does tell us that we will receive a reward in time.. Blessings to you, Nolan |

4 | Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? | James 4:3 | The Disciple | 29899
Nolan, Thanks for the timely response. I guess the question I pose can be seen as an oxymoron?? I am of the ilk that our motives shouldnt be for gain of self in any way shape or form. Yet, a question still remains. How is it teachers/pastors follow a principal to give to get to give. Believing that what is sown now will be reaped later on? And that is the motive for the sowing...to reap later on so as to sow again. Quite a turnstile, ya think?? :) *Shalom* D |

5 | Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? | James 4:3 | Makarios | 30002
Greetings Discipled! I agree, that presents quite a quandary! But I'm sure that you would agree that humans are just full of ironic possibilities... :-) Blessings to you, Nolan |

6 | Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? | James 4:3 | The Disciple | 30012
Yes - agreed! What can we do for such possibilities ? Or what should we do ? Are we to go on letting our bretheren live in discontent? Or shall we try to help them understand what Paul tries to teach us in Phillipians 4:10-20? Surely he wasnt just speaking of mammon..? (see vs 17) Frankly, its disheartening to see our brothers believing a message of gain now and not so much later. *SHALOM* D |

7 | Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? | James 4:3 | Makarios | 30021
Greetings my friend, 2 Tim. 3:16 says that "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;" Two words jump out at me here: 'teaching' and 'correction.' Such a verse would lead me to the conclusion that we should not let our brethren live in discontent, but to help them to understand that Christianity is not something in which we should use for our own gain, but it is a walk with God that we should undertake for God's gain, and His gain alone! :-) Shalom! Thank You Nolan, I have used that Scripture for a foundation of why I do the things I do with all my brothers that ask why... Prayerfully they to will find themselves in His service in such a way. Lord Bless you always, D |
