1 | What is the purpose of the wisdom? | James 1:5 | Searcher56 | 11778
What is the purpose of the wisdom we ask? Why? -Is it to endure and persevere in trails (v 4)? -Is it so we don't doubt (v 6) or are double minded (v 8)? -If it is something else, are we taking the verse out of context? |

2 | What is the purpose of the wisdom? | James 1:5 | Makarios | 11792
"Sin, Lack of Faith—Sin is not just an overt act. The Bible writers acknowledged overt actions as sin, but they went much deeper than that. Lack of faith in God’s goodness and promises is also recognized as sin. The doubter is tempted to fall back on human experience that denies God and His power. Human wisdom based on experience is not sufficient to meet life’s storms. Believers trust God to provide the needed wisdom." (Disciple's Study Bible) "The wisdom God gives is not necessarily information on how to get out of trouble but rather insight on how to learn from one’s difficulties (see also Prov. 29:15). It is not more information about how to avoid times of testing but instead a new perspective on trials. The wisdom of God begins with a genuine reverence for the Almighty (see “the fear of the LORD” in Ps. 111:10; Prov. 9:10) and a steadfast confidence that God controls all circumstances, guiding them to His good purposes (Rom. 8:28)." (The Nelson NKJV Study Bible) "1:5 God gives wisdom abundantly and graciously when we ask." (The Ryrie Study Bible) |

Nolan, I've heard people use this verse out of context, generalizing it ... as with other verses. Yes, we need wisdom you mention ... and the problem is we do not ask. Steve |
