There have been very rare exceptions...' ____________________ And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, (NASB Hebrews 9:27) In his Study Bible, John MacArthur comments on Heb. 9:27: '*to die once*. This is a general rule for all mankind. There have been very rare exceptions (e.g., Lazarus and the multitude who were resuscitated at Christ's resurrection died twice; compare John 11:43, 44; Matt. 27:51-53). Those, like Lazarus, who were raised from the dead by a miraculous act of our Lord were not resurrected to a glorified body and unending life. They only experienced resuscitation. 'Another exception will be those who don't die even once, but who will be "caught up...to meet the Lord in the air" (1 Thess. 4:17; compare Enoch, Gen. 5:24; Elijah, 2 Kin. 2:11).' Hi Kalos, I was just curious, does your MacArthur Study Bible give any additional info on why John MacArthur teaches that those raised at Jesus' death were not raised in eternal bodies? I was not aware that the Scripture specified whether they were or not. Just wondering . . . Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi, John... I don't know anywhere in Scripture where the Bible teaches that people will receive "different" bodies than those that they had in life. Knowing MacArthur as I do I'd be so bold as to venture that he would agree with the 1689 LBCF, chapter 31, paragraph 2, "At the last day, such of the saints as are found alive, shall not sleep, but be changed; and all the dead shall be raised up with the selfsame bodies, and none other; although with different qualities, which shall be united again to their souls forever. (1 Corinthians 15:51, 52; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; Job 19:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 15:42, 43)" In Him, Doc |
