Hi, Quili... Welcome to the forum! I would differ with Emmaus on this interpretation. Instead, these persons are probably baptized (per the use of the word "inluminati" for baptism by church fathers like Justin Martyr and Clemens Alexandrinus) yet unsaved. Perhaps they are similar to those Paul speaks of in Romans 9:32, they have sought salvation through works, rather than faith. Or perhaps they are those whose faith is through the wisdom of man, and not of God (1 Cor 2:5). They can probably articulate the gospel and the benefits of salvation. However, they are not redeemed. Sometimes people reform their lives when they hear the gospel, but they do not respond in saving faith. In Him, Doc |

This a Calvinism/Arminianism debate - so don't continue beyond this.

If you never post on ANYTHING that is held by Calvinist or Arminians, Searcher... you might still be able to post something on Budhism, but probably not much. :-) I think this is the third time I've mentioned this to you... longsuffering as I am, I will be happy to mention it a fourth time. A Note about Debates: To the Members of the Forum At Large: Many -- in fact, most -- of you were not active on the Forum during the trying time a couple or so years ago that could be called the Year of the Great Calvinism/Armenianism Debates. For months on end this debate raged and left room on the Forum for little else. A number of good users left the Forum in outrage and disgust and have never returned. Something needed to be done. Many of us older users appealed to the Lockman Foundation for a remedy to this situation that was crippling the Forum severely. Lockman assessed the situation and responded decisively; hence, the Forum now has in place the strong prohibition against allowing such endless and bitter debates to flourish on their Study Bible Forum. It should be borne in mind, however, that the prohibition against extensive debating certainly includes but is not limited to Calvinism/Armenianism issues alone. Bickering, name-calling and all other such unpleasantries are equally proscribed by Forum guidelines. The Forum cannot function proficiently and in peace when users call each other dirty rotten ignorant numbskulls; when one user pushes his denominational biases so adamantly that he attacks everyone who disagrees with him, even to the extent, as has happened on the Forum, that he tells his dissenting brothers that they are at best second-class Christians and probably not regenerate believers at all. ....... So, what is allowed on the Forum? Sound Bible exegesis! Engaging in a civilized, loving, concerted and sincere effort to discern God's truth and to help the less informed discern it. Are Forum users forbidden to state the tenets of their faith? Certainly not, unless they attack the authority of Scripture or deny the deity of Christ or other core beliefs that have been foundational to orthodox Christianity through the centuries -- or engage in ad hominem slurs and attacks against fellow Forum users. What the guidelines say is forbidden is PUSHING one's denominational bias. They don't say that a user cannot state his faith or take a certain position on an issue. Stating what one believes on an issue and trying to PUSH that belief off as the last word of ultimate truth are not the same things. Nor is stating belief that is well authenticated by Scripture quite the same thing as stating belief that finds no corroboration in Scripture but is instead based on nothing more than a hunch, an uniformed guess or sheer speculation. The guidelines are clear enough. The danger is in not being wise and judicious in adhering to them in our posts, being neither too loose nor too rigidly legalitic in applying them. Common sense and common courtesy -- those two "common" mentors which appear to grow more and more uncommon -- ought always to be used generously and should be evident in every statement and in every post that we enter on Study Bible Forum. One may rest assured that his failure to play by the rules will be noticed and will be brought to his attention, in all probability in no uncertain terms, and sooner rather than later. :-) --Hank
6 | WHO is Hebrews 6:4-11 refering to? | Heb 6:4 | kalos | 144136
Hank: You have posted a very helpful note providing new users with a clear history and explanation of the subject and older users with a balanced, accurate review. Thank you for pointing out that "Stating what one believes on an issue and trying to PUSH that belief off as the last word of ultimate truth are not the same things." Indeed stating one's understanding of a Bible subject is not the same thing as engaging in an endless debate over that subject. Grace to you, Kalos |
