PK 1776, that would likely be the "two-edged sword" of Hebrews 4:12. The writer uses this as a powerful metaphor for the word of God, which is of course the Bible. For those who know Christ the Bible is a source of comfort and nourishment. But it is a "sword" of judgment to those who do not know the Lord Jesus. Not only is the word of God described in this verse as being "sharper than any two-edge sword" but it is also called "living and active." No other book in the world has ever truthfully been called living and active. --Hank
3 | Please explain "double edged sword" | Heb 4:12 | Makarios | 9609
Dear PK1776, Hank did an excellent job describing the Word of God as the "two-edged sword" based on Hebrews 4:12! Judges 3:16 describes Ehud's sword as having 'two edges' in which he used to thrust into the belly of Eglon, who was king of Moab and a very fat man! (Judg. 3:17, 21-23) This verse describes a 'two edged' sword as being a cubit in length... Nolan |

PK1776, Hank and Nolan did well. We also see this a part of the description of Jesus (Rev 1:16, 2:12). When He speaks, He is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Several times we read that He knew what people were thinking. Mark 2:6-9 is one passage. Others may not know what we think, but He does and the Word of God is His speaking to us - we are without excuse ... before or after salvation. Steve |
