My mother, paraphrasing Proverbs 15:1, was wont to say, "A kind word turns away wrath." I used to wonder if she meant "kinda weird." He-man, have you ever heard of a "false dichotomy?" That's what you have here. However, you've created another logical fallacy, unheard of by any rhetoritician, by presenting a false dichotomy whose terms have nothing whatsover to do with the verse in question. No offense, but you do seem to have a knack at bringing together scriptures and concepts that are entirely unrelated. Methinks you are pulling our collective leg! In Him, Doc |

3 | fellow believers or not? | Heb 13:1 | Hank | 139927
Doc, I recollect like it was yesterday, though it were many moons ago, when old Ozark Oliver got his brain operated on. Back in them days they called it pre-frontal dichotomy or some such thing and the Dr. he said Oliver needed it bad, because Oliver never was just right in his head somehow. Now he warn't plum ignorant. Facts is, he had more book learnin' than anybody in the whole county. But he had a mighty peculiar way of quoting authorities to back up what he was a saying, only he did it strange like, and the stuff he quoted from authorities never did fit what he was a trying to prove. Let's say you asked old Oliver about African elephants and he'd come back at you with quotes from "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" or recite a pair of Shakespeare's sonnets. Well, his dichotomy helped him in some ways I guess but it mixed him up more in other ways. Like, old Oliver would walk up to you and give you a answer and then ask you to tell him what the question was. Things like that. He still don't act right. Last time I talked with Oliver, he was thinking about getting a computer just as soon as he gets his house wired for electricity. Next thing a body knows, he'll probably be wanting to join this Forum. --Hank

Hank: I believe "old Oliver" has some relatives up here in Missouri. They have some car lots, and most of them cars have been driven by old widow ladies, that only drove them to church and the store. They went to church a lot, the cars all have about 175,000 miles. For three year old cars that's pretty good would'nt you say? Blessings Hank, have a merry Christmas. justme |
