1 | Mount Sinai or Zion? | Heb 12:22 | prayon | 11535 | ||
Many awesome things happened on Mt. Sinai. It was the mountain that the law was delivered to Moses and the covenant between God and Isreal was sealed and where God revealed his presence. It has also been called the Mountain of God, or Mount Horeb. The mountain played a significant role in the spiritual developement of Moses. The Lord's presence on this peak came to symbolize divine protection. Paul uses Mount Sinai to symbolize the Old Testament. Mount Zion (or Sion in the KJV) was another favorite abode of God. Psalm 2:6 refers to Zion as "my (God's) holy hill", the "holy habitation of the Most High (Ps. 46:4), "Mount Zion which He loves", is where God "built his sanctuary like the high heavens (Ps 78:68-69), and Psalm 48:1-2 calls it His Holy mountain, beautiful in elevation. It is also where David's tomb is located and where the upper room of the last supper took place. On numerous occations it is referred to as a metaphor for security and protection (Ps 125). The New Testament continues this imagery using the term "heavenly Jerusalem" in reference to the church (Heb 12:22),and the gospel message (1Pet 2:6). In the New Testament it represents the newness of true worship and the "new Jerusalem" where Christ's redeemed will live with Him. John also states in Rev 14:1 that he looked and saw Christ standing with the 144,000. I would choose to live on Mt Zion for the reasons mentioned above. prayon |
