1 | Already Saved before We Believe | Heb 11:6 | humpy | 94264
In John 17:2 jesus tells us that he gives eternal life to those that the father has aready given him. But if this is true and it must be, how does people say that all we must do is believe to be saved, when this verse tells us that that God has already chosen those who will be saved, look at 2 Timothy 1:9 and it will be clear.
2 | Already Saved before We Believe | Heb 11:6 | Makarios | 94265
Hebrews 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him." [ESV] We are saved through grace alone. Now, you may contend that believers are "drawn" to Him by the Holy Spirit, which is scripturally sound. Proof of God's 'selectivity' is obvious in regards to election (Rom. 9; Eph. 1; Acts 13:48; Rom. 8:27-30), although I elect not to dwell on that subject to an extreme extent. Even so, the fact of man's depravity is also evident in Scripture (Rom. 3:10-18; 1 Cor. 2:14; 2 Cor. 4:3-4; Eph. 2:1-3).. Therefore, 'something' has to happen to bring man from "depravity" to being worth "redeemable" by Jesus Christ. And this faith that we gain by hearing the Word (and salvation occurs as we are reconciled to God) is what begins to separate us from depraved man. In conclusion, I am a firm believer that we first must believe before we are saved, even though the Lord knew all along what path we would take or be "directed" to go. Blessings to you, Makarios |
