What is meant by "obtaining a better resurrection" or "might be resurrected to a better life"? Should we be striving for a "better resurrection"?
2 | A "Better" Resurrection? | Heb 11:35 | EdB | 68103
Makarios This passage is talking about two different times two different resurrections. Hebrews 11:35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; The women that received back their dead by resurrection is talking about women of faith like widow of Zarephath (1 Kin. 17:22) and the woman of Shunem (2 Kin. 4:34) who received back their loved ones by miraculous resuscitation rather than a true or permanent resurrection. The second part is talking about Christian martyrs of faith tortured to death rather than denying Christ and forsaking a resurrection into eternal life. Matthew 10:32-33 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. [33] But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. The resurrection talked about in the first part was temporal those brought back from death would die again. In the second part referring to a better resurrection is talking about the resurrection of the saints into eternal life. Thus the first is temporal and the second is everlasting or better. Yes everyone who calls Jesus Christ Lord and Master should be looking for the better resurrection. EdB |

Greetings EdB, This is an interesting verse and I appreciate your response. You have pointed out that this is an "intraverse" comparison between two resurrections, and I agree that that is the best way to interpret this verse. Thank you for the clarification! :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |
