Hi, I'd just like to comment on Samson's actions. Judges 14:3 shows that he was rude to his parents. He took the Nazirite vow which is outlined in Numbers 6. Samson pushed the limits of his vow. A Nazirite was not to come near a dead body (Numbers 6:6), but he reached inside of the dead lion in Judges 14:8-9 (notice that he did not tell his parents that he got the honey from a DEAD lion). Some say that he pushed the limits in Judges 14:5: "they approached the vineyards of Timnah." - a Nazirite was not to have anything to do with wine or grape products. Maybe the lion that attacks Samson in Judges 14:5 was a warning from God. Nevertheless, God had a purpose for Samson as noted in Judges 14:4, and Hebrews lists him as a man of faith that God used. So was he good? No, only God is truly good. As far as people go, Samson was kind of thick skulled and he pushed the limits of his special vow to God, but God used him anyway to accomplish his purposes. Samson's death w/ the Philistines was God's judgement on the Philistines, and put an end to their blasphemous statements in Judges 16: 23-24. Hope this helps a bit! |
