Christologically Pregnant Passages Some are guilty of ignoring the obvious when it comes to the New Testament's treatment of Christ's Divinity. There are a number of Christologically pregnant passages which fully affirm the Deity of Christ, but they tend to be ignored on the basis of some rather circular argumentation. The argument usually present against these passages is that nowhere else does Scripture so clearly proclaim that Jesus is in fact God. But, this argument is used over and over again to ignore the clear import of what Scripture has to say about Jesus. We have Granville Sharp to thank for his work in this important area of study. He, more than anyone else, has demonstrated what Scripture has to say about Jesus. For a great article about this man, check out the following link: http://www.bible.org/page.php?page(underscore)id(equals)1547 Note: Replace (underscore) with the actual symbol and (equals) with the actual symbol. Granville Sharp is most remembered in America for his great contribution to our understanding of Greek grammar, and hence, our understanding of Scripture. His first rule states that when two, proper and personal substantives, both of which are singular in number and in the same case, are connect by the Greek 'kai', then both of these substantives are references to the same person. Why is this important? There are eight Christologically pregnant passages in the New Testament that demonstrate conclusively that Christ is God. They are: Acts 20:28; Eph 5:5; 2 Thess 1:12; 1 Tim 5:21; 2 Tim 4:1; Titus 2:13; 2 Pet 1:1; Jude 4. Each of these passages, in accordance with Granville Sharp's first rule, definitely call Jesus – God! 1)Acts 20:28 (in the majority of the manuscripts) speaks of the church of 'the Lord and God', which He purchased with His own blood. The shorter reading of either 'of God' or 'of Lord' are usually preferred because the longer reading is simply too strong of a statement of Christ's Deity. 2)Eph. 5:5 speaks of the kingdom of Christ and God. 3)2 Thess. 1:12 speaks of the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ. 4)1 Tim. 5:21 says, “I charge you before the God and Lord Jesus Christ.” 5)2 Tim. 4:1 is the same as 1 Tim. 5:21. 6)Titus 2:13 is one of the greatest affirmations of Christ's Deity. It speaks of Christ as “our great God and Savior”. 7)2 Pet. 1:1 also speaks of Christ as “our God and Savior”. 8)Finally, Jude 4 speaks of Christ as “our only Lord God and Master”. All of these verses speak of Jesus as God. Let us boldly stand and proclaim the Jesus is Lord and God, the second Person of the Trinity. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

That was a great post, Tim! Thank you very much! Scripture really is, so remarkably clear and succinct on the issue of Jesus' deity, there can be no dispute. And yet, sadly, there are those whose eyes are blinded. :-( John 1:1 John |
