How would you answer a French man who wanted to learn an easy way to learn English? Greek is even more complex than English. One word can be modified in many ways to change meaning and intent. Without taking class? Move to Greece. Yet, the Greek spoken today is not the same Greek spoken at the time of the writing of the NT. The Greek of the NT is primarily Koine, but other dialects do appear in the Scripture at times. From those who I learn the Bible translated from the original languages I have been told it takes years of serious study. Otherwise, a little self taught knowledge can be very dangerous. My pastor teaches Scripture from the Greek and Hebrew texts. Once you see how it is to be done the idea of being self taught quickly fades. Those who quote from concordances and word studies have a very limited scope of the nature of what the Greek and Hebrew texts can contain and convey. Grace and peace, Gene |
