Brothers and Sisters, This is not actually a question about this verse, but is a pertinent. I am looking for a KJV study Bible and have been told to steer clear of the Scofield line. I already own NASB, KJV, and NKJV versions. I am trying to see if any of you own a Thompson Chain-Reference and if so, if it is a study Bible that contains notes that stick to the word of God and rightly divide the Word. Thanks! hidden in Christ, Lissa |

Choosing a Study Bible Lissamz: The Thompson Chain Reference Bible, if I remember right, does not contain explanatory footnotes. A study Bible I highly recommend is the Life Application Study Bible. It is available in the King James Version, as well as several other translations. Check it out at a Christian book store. If you are looking for a KJV study Bible, take a look at the King James Study Bible (ISBN 0-7852-0915-8). It is said to be the most comprehensive KJV study Bible ever published. It contains over 5,700 in-depth annotations, as well as book outlines and many more special features. Whether you choose the Scofield, Dake, or other study Bible will depend largely on your Biblical orientation, i.e., where you're coming from. If, for example, you are Pentecostal, you might like the Life in the Spirit Study Bible or the Spirit-Filled Life Bible. If you are a dispensationalist, you may prefer the Scofield Study Bible or the Ryrie Study Bible. A fundamentalist or other conservative Christian might choose the King James Study Bible (mentioned above). You can see readers' reviews and sample pages of many study Bibles at Amazon.com I would not choose any Bible based solely on the recommendation of one person. Look at the various study Bibles at a Christian bookstore. Do some research at Amazon.com. Compare before you buy. On a personal note, I have nine or ten study Bibles in my own library. For the past seven years, the one I use most often -- virtually every day -- is the MacArthur Study Bible. I strongly urge you NOT to get a Dake Bible. It is filled with error. I would be glad to provide more information on the Dake, if you are interested. One last thing. Much has already been posted here at the Forum on the subject of choosing a study Bible. Use the Search function to find these postings. If you need help with the Search function, just ask. God bless you in your search for a good study Bible. Grace to you, Kalos |
