1 | Money root of all evil? | 1 Tim 6:10 | Hank | 3259
You've probably heard "Money is the root of all evil." What's wrong with that statement? What are some of the ways money can be a trap for the believer? Can you cite anyone in the Bible whose money may have come between him and the Lord? [This question is the same as an earlier submission, which contained a goofy typo blunder. Now the secret is out: Hank's not perfect. Sorry to disappoint you!]
2 | Money root of all evil? | 1 Tim 6:10 | Chris | 3311
The problem with the quote is that it misses the message that 'the love' of money causes problems. Money itself is neither evil nor good. Another problem is the way this phrase is translated in english translations of the Bible. I think the NASB is the best, with the possible exception of a completely literal translation, 'the love of money is a root of all the evils.' Check out Literal Bible for that translation. Notice it doesn't say, 'the love of money' is THE(as in only) root of ALL EVIL. This translation decisions greatly harm the original meaning of the passage! Greed is the greatest of the traps, in my opinion, Paul calls greed, idolatry! How about Ananias in the book of Acts, or the rich young ruler in the Gospels. Hank, you have truly hurt me! Where are you now, Joe Dimasio? |

3 | Money root of all evil? | 1 Tim 6:10 | Hank | 3325
Dear Chris: Wherein have I hurt you, or is this a joke that I'm too dense to get? And what does Jumping Joe have to do with it? Again, I plead mental dullness. The only possible way I can tie my remarks to yours so that you might be prompted to say "Hank, you have truy hurt me!" is that you took my remark about an oft-misquoted verse to mean that I believed the mis-quotation to be, in fact, the correct one. Is that it? And could "hurt" therefore be construed to mean "disappointed"? Chris, you have posted a good response to the question under consideration. That is in keeping with the spirit and purpose of the Forum, I believe. As for your closing statement, if you are serious and something did in fact truly hurt you, please let me know and I will make every effort to effect reparation. It serves no purpose and achieves no worthy end for anyone on this Forum to foster ill-will by deliberate remarks whose clear intent is to put another person down or in some way attempt to demean him. I have not, nor do I ever intend to, post anything on this Forum with those base motives in mind. We can disagree if we must, but by the grace of God, we can do so agreeably. Hank.
4 | Money root of all evil? | 1 Tim 6:10 | Chris | 3371
Sorry Hank, that was my lame sense of humor! The idea had to do with your mistake(typo in first question), and the joke came from the idea of where have all our heros gone. And finally, the ultimate American hero is Joe D (please excuse the spelling). But, it was a shot at humor! SORRY. GOD bless!!

Thank you, Chris, for your kind response. May you and yours experience in abundance the riches of Christ's love during this time of celebrating His glorious resurrection. Hank.
