1 | A husband's responsibility | 1 Tim 5:8 | There | 18679
Could any and all of you please provide sciptures that explain a husband is to "provide for" (work to support) his wife and children? Please feel free to make comments too. Just for the record, the "husband" in question uses Proverbs 31:16-31 to say a wife is to financially support herself, children, and home. And he uses Genesis 3:17-19 to say that God only tells man to support himself. |

2 | A husband's responsibility | 1 Tim 5:8 | Lionstrong | 18680
Hi There! By what logic does he get from, "In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. "Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground..." to, "God only tells man to support himself"? God is describing the curse, not giving a command. Here's a quick answer, but it applies. 1 Tim 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Peace, Lionstrong |

3 | A husband's responsibility | 1 Tim 5:8 | There | 18700
Hi Lionstrong, I'm not really sure HOW his thinking goes in the case of Genesis 3, but my "guess" is that he's going strictly by "in the sweat of your face (hard word) YOU shall eat bread". Like I said, though it is a guess. His way of thinking hasn't made much sense to me either. Thank you for the scripture!! It's very much appreciated. There |

4 | A husband's responsibility | 1 Tim 5:8 | Lionstrong | 18704
You're welcome, There, Nonetheless, "in the sweat of your face (hard work) YOU shall eat bread" is God's description of the curse as the result of man's sin. It is a curse, not a command. There's not logical way he can get from a curse to a command. This seems to be a cover-up for laziness, and irresponsibility. I pray the Lord Jesus will give him repentance. Peace, Lionstrong P.S. The woman was also cursed with hard labor in giving birth. It says nothing (neither by description nor command) about the woman providing for herself. And it doesn't say to the man, "you ALONE or ONLY shall eat bread." What's the woman to eat? The curse says nothing about her working hard to feed herself. So who provides for her? The only time you find women gathering grain in the OT is when the have no husbands. (Ruth) The wife's work is in the home not the field. (Prov 31, Titus) Titus 2:3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, Titus 2:4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, Titus 2:5 to be sensible, pure, WORKERS AT HOME [my caps], kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. |
